Gabriele D’Onofrio: If thinking about the current challenges for the die-cutting of labels the main ones are about fast changeover and reliability.
- We are living in a digitized production world, in your opinion, which system is the most suitable for the modern single-pass label printing (rotary/laser) process?
Gabriele D’Onofrio: So far semi-rotary die-cutting gives more advantages and more versatility, Laser die-cutting can give great advantages on certain jobs and make companies much more competitive but cannot be the main solution as there are too many limitations.
- In general: what are your preferences for certain applications? (Semi) rotary die-cutting or laser die-cutting?
Gabriele D’Onofrio: Semi-rotary die-cutting allows the processing of all materials, has lower initial and maintenance costs, the fastest problem solving and allows the re-use of already owned die plates. In addition, a rotary die cutter allows the production of blank labels, also growing market.
- Laser die-cutting is a rather new technology: where do you see the opportunities and limitations of this process?
Gabriele D’Onofrio: The biggest limitation of laser die-cutting is the limited range of materials, the greatest advantage is the opportunity to start a job “on demand”, without waiting for the plate order.
