  1. Looking back at 2016, what were the most important developments in terms of technology and production workflow to affect the label industry?

Maybe the most important developments occurred in the inkjet and digital finishing (and sublimation) segments. A high level of automation is necessary. Not in our business, but 3D-printing seems to be becoming more and more important. And – generally speaking – we all see a big trend in mergers and acquisitions through capitalised enterprises in our business. The “big player“ get bigger and bigger….

  1. Some describe Industry 4.0 as the ‘4th Industrial Revolution’. What is your opinion on this evolution of communications within the production chain, and how does it affect your workflow?

The basic idea of Industry 4.0 is very important for every industry operating and evaluating their own processes to a higher efficiency. Without these developments in the past, we would not  be profitable today. It’s not a “nice to have”, it’s a “must have”.

  1. What are your concerns and expectations for the label industry in 2017? What do you consider will be the game-changing developments? How does your view relate to what you might see at Labelexpo Europe 2017?

2016 was a challenging but successful year. Certainly, next year will be even more challenging for us. Because we did our “homework” in the past, we look to the future with high confidence  due to enthusiastic customers, satisfied employees and by using the best available techniques. Our strategy is that we want to prove that compassion is the basis for long-term economic success. For LabelExpo 2017 we expect a continuous trend in digital printing and hopefully and in general, a little bit more of “revolution” for our label business.

  1. Do you currently have digital printing capability? Will you be investing in a digital press (or presses) in 2017?

Etiketten Carini was one of the first self-adhesive label printing companies in Western Europe to investin digital printing – in 1998. During the last two decades, technology has changed dramatically. Since that time Carini has continuously invested in digital printing and it‘s subsequent processes. Today our technical equipment on site is state of the art. However, we have to be steady because – especially in this printing world – we can never be sure what is coming next. So, be awake and keep your eyes open!
