Herma: Donation for South Africa to Care&Share&Smile

Herma is contributing to two aid projects Care&Share&Smile in Knysna, in South Africa's Western Cape Province.

GERMANY Herma donated EUR 20,000 to a Care&Share&Smile, a sustainable aid programme in South Africa. Sponsored by the charitable organisation whose head office is in Esslingen, Germany, the projects fall under the headings of continuous education, mentoring and humanitarian aid. “We all recall the moving celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life in December and, in this context, the widespread acknowledgment that further action is essential – grief and looking back at what has been achieved since apartheid was overcome are not enough,” comments Herma Managing Director Sven Schneller.

For Heike Ellwanger, Photojournalist, Aid Worker and Founder of the organisation, the goal is to give hope to abandoned children, orphans and socially deprived young people by taking them off the street and providing safe shelters and education.

In Magdalentje’s pre-school, children receive a well-structured pre-school education that includes workshops, measures to prevent drug, hygiene and health problems, and protection against domestic abuse. And the Kanonkop soup kitchen ranks among the most effective in the entire region. For those it looks after, it is the principal provider of a regular nutritious meal.
